Zambia is a landlocked country at the crossroads of Central, Southern and East Africa. The capital city is Lusaka, located in the south-central part of Zambia. The population is concentrated mainly around Lusaka in the south and the Copperbelt Province to the northwest, the core economic hubs of the country.

Things to do
Victoria Falls
Victoria Falls is a wide Zambezi waterfall between the border towns of Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe and Livingstone in Zambia. The falls have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1989.
Archeological sites and oral history describe a long record of African knowledge of the site. Though known to some European geographers before the 19th century, Scottish missionary David Livingstone identified the falls in 1855, providing the English colonial name of Victoria Falls after Queen Victoria. Since the mid 20th century, the site has been an increasingly important source of tourism. Zambia and Zimbabwe both have national parks and tourism infrastructure at the site. Research in the late 2010s found that climate change caused precipitation variability is likely to change the character of the fall.
South Luangwa National Park
The South Luangwa National Park is the most famous wildlife sanctuary in Zambia and the main focus of tourism in the country. It is the southernmost of three parks in the Luangwa River Valley. The other two are North Luangwa National Park and Luambe National Park. South Luangwa National Park is home to an extensive and diverse wildlife population, including a large number of Thorneycroft giraffes and large herds of elephants and buffalo, often numbering several hundred.
Kafue National Park
Kafue National Park is the largest national park in Zambia. The park was established in the 1950s and covers 22,400 square kilometers. The IUCN lists Kafue with 22,309 km² and designated as a national park in 1971. According to the Dutch anthropologist Wim van Binsbergen, the forerunners of today’s park emerged as early as the 1930s.
Kariba dam
The Kariba Dam is a large dam in the Kariba Gorge of the Zambezi River along the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe in southern Africa. The facility is managed by a bi-national authority, the Zambezi River Authority.
Kalambo Falls
At 235 meters, the Kalambo Falls are among the highest waterfalls in Africa. They are located on the border between Zambia and Tanzania at the southeast end of Lake Tanganyika. Contrary to the official name, it is only a single waterfall. Above this fall there is the Sanzye Falls of the Kalambo.
Lumangwe Falls
The Lumangwe Falls of the Kalungwishi River are located in Zambia in the Northern Province 150 km north of Lake Bangweulus in the direction of Lake Mweru, nine kilometers from the main road between the places Kawambwa and Mporokoso.
Knife Edge Bridge
This spectacular walk along the Knife Edge of the precipice is the only way to view Victoria Falls from the Zambian side. It can be accessed shortly after the Zambian border post and it is possible to walk across from the Zimbabwean side. It can be quite a heart-stopping walk if you are afraid of heights!
Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park
Located in southern Zambia on the border with Zimbabwe, Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park also includes Victoria Falls, which attracts many visitors each year. It has been part of the Mosi-oa-Tunya / Victoria Falls UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1989. It stretches along the upper reaches of the Zambezi from Victoria Falls to about twelve kilometers upstream.
Devils Pool Victoria Falls
While the daredevils are sitting in the Devils Pool, thousands of cubic meters of water are constantly falling down next to them. The enormous power of the water masses is particularly evident in the roaring spray foaming up from the waterfall. The resulting spray mist rises up to 300 meters.
Livingstone Museum
The Livingstone Museum, formerly the David Livingstone Memorial Museum and after that, the Rhodes-Livingstone Museum, is the largest and the oldest museum in Zambia, located in Livingstone near Victoria Falls. The museum has exhibits of artifacts related to local history and prehistory, including photographs and musical instruments, and also holds possessions and memorabilia – including letters and journals – of David Livingstone, the explorer and missionary.
Kabwata Cultural Village
It’s a 10-minute drive south of the city center to Kabwata Cultural Village, along Burma Road in Lusaka City.
The village is renowned for rich artworks that showcase Zambia’s tradition and culture: wood sculptures, beads, masks, a variety of African fabrics, drums and other traditional musical instruments. Today, it’s somewhat difficult to identify which provincial tradition a given work belongs to, because the artists have all learned from one another. For example artists from Eastern Province, who specialized in making Nyau dance costumes, can now make Makishi dance costumes in the style of Western or Northwestern Provinces.

- Nshima – a thick porridge made from mealie meal, a relatively coarse flour made from maize or mealies, serves as the staple food of the country.
- Kapenta (Dry Sardines)
- Ndiwo is a simple Zambian dish that is typically prepared with various leafy green vegetables, onions, and optionally tomatoes.
- Dry Fish
- Samp can be eaten in so many different ways. It can be eaten, for example, with fresh milk, sour milk, sugar, roasted ground peanuts, or raw ground peanuts.
- Kalembula is a traditional Zambian ndiwo dish prepared with sweet potato leaves, tomatoes, onions, and nuts.
- Ifisashi is a traditional Zambian dish made with peanuts, tomatoes, onions, and greens such as pumpkin leaves, sweet potato leaves, spinach, and collard greens.
- Kandolo (Sweet Potatoes)
- Tongabezi chicken curry – the curry is usually made with a combination of chicken, sweet potatoes, onions, tomatoes, garlic, lemongrass, hot peppers, stock, yogurt, ginger, coriander, and curry powder.
- Prepared using baking soda, delele is mostly loved for its slimy texture. There are various types of okra eaten in Zambia. The most common type is ladyfingers.

Getting around
The Tazara Railway connects Kapiri Mposhi to Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) and is the only international line that is presently running. The two-day journey leaves every Tuesday and Friday at 4:00 p.m. An alternative is to go from Kapiri Mposhi to the Tanzanian border. There is also an inter-city railway that runs between Kitwe and Livingstone with stops along the way that include Lusaka. There are two trains that run this route, regular day service and the faster Zambian Express. Ordinary trains only have one class of seats, while express trains offer a wide variety, with a sleeper for two, four or six. Rail transportation in Zambia is slow, but safe and reliable.
Minibuses can be found everywhere though they are irregular and uncomfortable, but offer visitors an authentic experience. They can be flagged down pretty much anywhere and are used as public transportation to get around Lusaka. Larger, luxury coaches are best for long distance travel and generally depart from or arrive at Lusaka’s bus station.
