Things to do
Shwedagon
The Shwedagon, located in Rangoon, is the most significant sacred structure and Myanmar’s religious hub. Being one of the most well-known stupas in the world, it is regarded as the national symbol. Constructed atop the highly defended Singuttara Hill, the southernmost foothill of the Pegu-Joma mountain range, and adorned with two terraces, the edifice looms above the nation’s major metropolis.

Ananda Temple
During the time of King Kyansittha of the Pagan Dynasty in 1105 AD, the Buddhist Ananda Temple was constructed in Bagan, Myanmar. With multiple terraces and a small pagoda at the top covered by an umbrella known as hti—the name of the umbrella or top adornment present in nearly all pagodas in Myanmar—the temple is arranged in a cruciform. Four standing Buddha statues, one facing each of the cardinal directions—East, North, West, and South—are housed in the Buddhist temple. Sule Pagode
As to the mythology, the pagoda was constructed during the lifetime of Buddha about 2,600 years ago, preceding the construction of the Shwedagon Pagoda. The major stupa’s octagonal floor design dates to the first century AD and alludes visually to features unique to Mon architecture.In Myanmar’s religious and political life, including the 1988 Uprising and the 2007 Saffron Revolution, the pagoda is significant.

Chaukhtatgyi Temple
One of Myanmar’s largest reclining Buddhas is housed in this complex. The length requirements range from 66 to 72 meters.The monument’s plaque reads “216 feet.” The 1960s saw the creation of the current statue following the destruction of the earlier, unsuccessful figure from the early 20th century. Between 1957 and 1966, the Chaukhtatgyi Pagoda underwent significant renovations and restorations. The statue was expanded by many meters during that procedure, making it the third largest of its sort in modern-day Myanmar.

Maha Bandula Park
Situated in the heart of Yangon, Burma, is a public park called Maha Bandula Park. Sai Yok National Park

Naypyidaw Water Fountain Garden
The 165-acre garden has an arch-shaped steel structure and is located next to the Naypyidaw City Hall. A 9.1 m high clock tower, nine entertainment centers, two small gardens, two stone gardens, a ten foot wide buggy road, and walkways are also included in the garden. The main pond has three fountains, and there are eleven smaller ponds with thirteen different fountains.

The Golden Rock
For more than 2,500 years, Buddhist devotees have used Golden Rock and the Kyaiktiyo Pagoda, which is situated atop Mount Kyaiktiyo in Myanmar, as a place of prayer. I had a great time seeing this incredibly lovely building, and I was struck by how devoted the believers were as I silently watched them singing, lighting candles, and burning incense in front of the Golden Rock.

Dhammayangyi Temple
Architecturally, the Dhammayangyi Temple in Bagan is very similar to the Ananda Temple, having been constructed in 1170 by King Narathu as retribution for the murder of his father, Alaungsithu. From Old Bagan, it is roughly one kilometer southeast. The layout of the temple resembles a Greek cross. The center one-story cuboid’s terraces and roof surfaces have a sharp inclination that resembles a pyramid. The four cardinal directions are used while building entrance halls. The quality of the stonework is exceptional. The builders, Narathu, who was reputedly ruthless, had the masons put to death if they succeeded in driving a needle between the bricks.

Thatbinnyu Temple
The Thatbinnyu Temple in Old Bagan, which dates to the start of the Bagan middle period of construction, was most likely dedicated in 1144, during the reign of King Alaungsithu.Monks stayed in the galleries on the two lower floors, which had a large central area. Books and holy items are stored on the fourth floor, while a shrine featuring a giant sitting Buddha is located in the center of the third floor.

Shwesandaw Pagoda
After two intermediary octagonal levels, the step pyramid features five square terraces, and at the top is the traditional cylindrical stupa building with bell, turban, double lotus, banana blossom, and hti. Stairs ascend to the fifth terrace from each of the four corners. Serving the worshippers was their way of getting to the now-gone terracotta panels on each terrace, which depicted scenes from the Jatakas; today, tourists climb up to see the sunset.

Kuthodaw Pagoda
The Kuthodaw Pagoda complex is located in Mandalay, Myanmar, and was finished in 1868. It is made up of 729 stupas, which resemble pavilion-style temples and have white marble slabs engraved in Burmese. The life and teachings of the Buddha are recorded in the Pali Canon, which is placed atop the marble slabs. The letters that were once gold-plated are now merely black in hue. Because of this detailed representation, the pagoda is also referred to as “The largest book in the world”. The majority of the inscriptions were written on palm leaves or wood prior to the construction of this structure. The inscriptions were added to the Register of World Documents maintained by UNESCO.

Mahamuni Buddha Temple
The Mahamuni Image, which was originally from Arakan, is housed at this temple. It is deeply revered in Burma and plays a significant role in the lives of many, as it is seen to be a manifestation of the life of the Buddha.There are only five Buddha likenesses known from ancient tradition; two are in India, two are in paradise, and the fifth is the Mahamuni Image in Myanmar. According to legend, the Buddha paid a visit to the Arakan city of Dhanyawadi in 554 BC. Sanda Thuriya, the King, asked to have a cast of himself made. When finished, the Buddha breathed upon it, and his identical likeness appeared in the image.
