Veste Oberhaus is a castle on the left bank of the Danube, opposite the old town of Passau on the right. Founded in 1219, it was for most of that time the castle and residence of the princely bishop of the Bishopric of Passau. The inscription 1499 on the facade, which can be seen from afar, shows only one of the years of construction of the castle, which was repeatedly expanded until 1800. The complex is listed as an archaeological monument under the file number D-2-7446-0052 in the Bavarian Atlas as “underground medieval and early modern findings and discoveries in the area of the Oberhaus fortress”. It is also listed as an architectural monument of Passau under file number D-2-62-000-438.

The Schaiblingsturm is one of Passau’s landmarks. It stands on the south side of Passau’s old town near the top of the town on a rock rising out of the Inn on the Innkai. The round tower with the high pointed helmet is a witness to the medieval city fortifications of Passau.
