Biogradska Gora National Park
Biogradska Gora is a forest and a national park in Montenegro within Kolašin municipality. One of the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves,this area is one of the last three large virgin rainforests in Europe. The landscape is one of mountain ridges, glacial lakes, and temperate forest.
Crno jezero
The Crno jezero is a glacial lake in northern Montenegro. The lake is located at an altitude of 1416 m, about 3 km west of Žabljak.
Jaz Beach
Jaz pronounced is a beach in the Budva Municipality in Montenegro. It is located 2.5 km west of Budva. It consists of two parts, one 850 m long and the other, formerly a nudist beach, 450 m long. It is a pebble beach, with a campground along the greater part of the beach (capacity 2,000 lots).While it is among the longer beaches in Montenegro, and is a popular beach for sunbathing and camping, it has gained international prominence as a host of numerous concerts and happenings in recent years.The vast hinterlands of the Jaz beach are considered among the greatest potentials for tourism development on the Montenegrin coast, as there are few undeveloped areas left on the coast besides Jaz (notably Buljarica, Velika Plaža and Ada Bojana).
Lovćen
The Lovćen is a main mountain range of Montenegro. The highest points are Štirovnik and Jezerski Vrh. Lovćen lies between the Adriatic coast and the Bay of Kotor. The cities of Kotor, Budva and Cetinje are located at the foot of the mountain range. On the top of Jezerski Vrh stands the Njegoš mausoleum by the Croatian sculptor Ivan Meštrović, which was built from 1970 to 1974.
Durmitor National Park
The Durmitor is a mountain range in northern Montenegro that belongs to the Dinarides mountain range. The Durmitor National Park, which surrounds the massif and was declared a national park in 1952, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1980.
Ostrog Monastery
The Ostrog Monastery in Montenegro is one of the most important monasteries of the Serbian Orthodox Church. The monastery is about 15 kilometers from Danilovgrad in the direction of Nikšić. It is located on the slope of the Prekornica Mountains to the plains of the Zeta River.
Gospa od Škrpjel
Gospa od Škrpjela is one of the two small islands off the coast of Perast in the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro. It is an artificial island created by a bulwark of rocks and old sunken ships loaded with stones. The tradition of rock throwing is still alive today. Every year on July 22nd, the festival called fašinada takes place when the locals throw stones into the sea to enlarge the island’s area.
Ada Bojana
Ada Bojana is an island in the Adriatic Sea belonging to Montenegro. It is located in the small delta of the river Bojana in the Adriatic Sea. The Bojana forms the border to neighboring Albania on its lower course. Ada Bojana is roughly in the shape of a triangle. The extension is around three kilometers by two and a half kilometers. The island was formed by the floating debris of the Buna / Bojana.
Đurđevića Tara Bridge
The Đurđevića Tara Bridge is a road bridge in the north of Montenegro. The building, which is curved in plan, has two lanes. It is located about 25 kilometers east of Žabljak between the villages of Budečevica and Trešnjica at an altitude of about 780 meters above sea level and spans the Tara river gorge at its narrowest point at a maximum height of 150 meters. The bridge is named after the village of Đurđevića Tara, located immediately to the north.
Saint Triphon Cathedral
The Cathedral of Saint Tryphon in Kotor, Montenegro is one of two Roman Catholic cathedrals in Montenegro. It is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kotor, which covers the entire Bay of Kotor and Municipality of Budva.
Skadar Lake National Park
Lake Skadar – lies on the border of Albania and Montenegro, and is the largest lake in Southern Europe. It is named after the city of Shkodër in northern Albania . It is a karst lake.The Montenegrin section of the lake and surrounding land has been designated as a national park, while the Albanian section is a nature reserve and a ramsar site.
National Park Lovćen
Adventure and culture. With these two words we can describe the trip through the Lovćen National Park in Montenegro. The fantastically beautiful nature reserve is located between Kotor and Cetinje, the cultural center of Montenegro. A trip to Lovćen is a must if you want to get to know the true beauty of the country. You drive on winding roads through the Dinaric Alps. The stretch between Kotor and Cetinje – Lovćen Street – is often cited as one of the most dangerous roads as well as one of the most scenic routes in the world. The path through the mountains is full of viewing platforms, where you have a view that is guaranteed to leave you speechless.
Cetinje Monastery
The Cetinje Monastery is a monastery of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Montenegro. It is located in Cetinje and is the seat of the Metropolitanate of Montenegro. A center of historical and cultural importance, it was founded c. 1484 by Prince Ivan Crnojević of Zeta, and designated as the cathedral monastery of the Eparchy of Zeta.It was devastated in 1692, during the Morean War, and rebuilt between 1701 and 1704 by Metropolitan Danilo Petrović-Njegoš on the site of the former court of Ivan Crnojević.There are several relics in the monastery: remains of St. Peter of Cetinje, right hand of John the Baptist, particles of the True Cross, icon of the Philermos Mother of God, remains of Petar II Petrović-Njegoš (relocated), royal crown of Serbian king Stephen Uroš III Dečanski, among others.
Old Town Herceg Novi
The Old Town of Herceg Novi is only six centuries old, but it represents the best juncture of history and culture, past and modern time. The Old Town was established by the Bosnian King Tvrtko I, who had the intention of turning it into a successful trading port. As salt was an important commodity at the time, Herceg Novi became the competitor to Dubrovnik in the trade of salt. The town was called Sveti Stefan, but as the youngest town, it was also called Novi (new), Castrum Novum, Castel Nuovo.
Savina
The Serbian Orthodox Savina Monastery is located east of Herceg Novi in the Bay of Kotor, Montenegro. The complex, located in a park made of old pine and oak trees, consists of a cemetery, two churches and the monastery building itself.

- Konoba Stari Grad is a restaurant in Budva, which prepares exquisite regional dishes. Because Budva is on the sea, it comes as no surprise that Konoba Stari Grad’s specialties are fish dishes, cooked according to traditional Mediterranean recipes.
- The Conte Restaurant has a well-deserved reputation for being one of the best restaurants in Montenegro, offering excellent Mediterranean food.
- Meat aficionados cannot miss the Pod Volat restaurant in Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro. The menu offers traditional meat dishes, with goulash and grilled meats being the specialties of the house.
- The Catovica Mlni restaurant can be found in the small village of Morinj, halfway between the better-known Herceg Novi and Kotar. The excellent menu mainly includes fish dishes, but also delicious homemade cheese, prosciutto and local wine.
- Perla is a hip lounge and restaurant located in the coastal town of Budva.
- Stari Mlini offers fish-based meals, cooked with seafood freshly sourced from the near Adriatic: the restaurant is in fact located in Kotor
- Konoba Feral is renowned for its traditional, local cuisine, offering both meat and fish dishes as well as soups, pasta, risottos; the fish is especially excellent.
- The Old Winery is not a restaurant, since it doesn’t serve meals, but it makes up for this with its lively atmosphere and excellent drinks menu.
Saving Tips
- Although the train network isn’t as widespread as the bus and may not access everywhere you want to visit, if there is the option to take the train, take it!
- The more inland you go, the cheaper it’ll get
- you need to pay a fee to use the bus station in Montenegro – 1,2 euros
- DON’T Forget about the tourist tax – cca. 1 euro per night
- Sveti Stefan is probably the most iconic place in Montenegro
- For white-sand beaches, you’ll need to head to the southernmost part of the coast around Ulcinj
- DON’T go to the grocery store on Sunday

Most of the cities in Montenegro have shopping malls, but for sure the biggest ones are located in the capital city Podgorica and coastal towns. The first great shopping mall opened in Montenegro was Delta City in Podgorica, which is also the most popular shopping mall today.

Getting around
The bus service to most towns is comprehensive, safe and cheap. The services on the coast tend to run more frequently. Bus drivers can let you out nearly anywhere along the route, but that’s at their discretion and you might end up having to hail a taxi.
The train line runs from Bar on the coast, through Virpazar on Lake Skadar, up to Podgorica through Kolašin, further towards the border with Serbia and up to Belgrade. You can cross half the country – from the beach to the mountains or ski fields – in one day and for just a couple of Euros.

Flights to Montenegro are in pretty short supply, but Montenegro Airlines flies to Podgorica and Tivat (near Kotor) from several European destinations. The state is also easily reached overland from any of its neighbouring countries.
