Beilstein
Beilstein is a neighborhood in Rhineland-Palatinate’s Cochem-Zell district. It is situated directly on the Moselle’s right bank and is a part of the Cochem municipality.The small community is also known as the “miniature Rothenburg” or the “Sleeping Beauty of the Moselle” since it boasts one of the best-preserved ancient townscapes on the Moselle. The settlement, which has an urban feel even though it is small, is overlooked by the ruins of Metternich Castle, which was formerly owned by the same-named princely dynasty.
At the end of their fourteen-year rule, they left the Black Madonna to the Beilsteiners, having taken the sculpture with them from their native country. Cochem
Cochem had been inhabited since the Celtic and Roman eras. It was originally identified as Cuchuma or villa Cuchuma in a record from 866.[4] Other names: Cuhckeme, Chuckeme 893, Cochemo 1051, Chuchumo 1056, Kuchema 1130, Cuchemo 1136, Cocheme 1144, and finally Cuchme, up till Cochheim / Cocheim in the 18th century. Cochem was imperial property that King Adolf of Nassau pledged to the Archdiocese of Trier in 1294. Until the French conquest in 1794, Cochem was part of Electoral Trier territory. Cochem was granted city powers in 1332, and the city’s current walls were constructed not long after. The city saw a plague outbreak between 1423 and 1425. Elector Lothar von Metternich started the process of establishing a Capuchin convent and building a monastery in 1623.

Eltz Castle
