After touring Zurich, Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald, and Interlaken, we were overjoyed to continue our adventure through Switzerland to Spiez, Sarnen, and Iseltwald, three breathtaking villages we had long wanted to explore. We were thrilled and full of anticipation to see these amazing locations when we departed Munich on the day of our trip to seven nations. After arriving in Zurich, we traveled to Interlaken, Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, Lucerne, and Lungern before continuing on to the villages of Iseltwald, Spiez, and Sarnen. Iseltwald Switzerland
Lake Brienz
Located in the Swiss canton of Bern, Lake Brienz is an Alpine edge lake sandwiched between the Emmental and Bernese Alps. There are very few areas of shallow water because to its steep banks, which continue below the water’s surface. We had the chance to snap images of the lakes in Interlaken and Iseltwald, Switzerland. We are confident that you will enjoy the views of this lovely lake from wherever you are on its shore.

Bachalpsee
is a charming little alpine lake in the Swiss canton of Bern, situated on the First above Grindelwald and Iseltwald. Situated at an elevation of 2266 meters above sea level in the Bernese Alps, it is divided into two sections by a small natural dam, with the bottom portion being over eight meters lower. The Wetterhorn, Schreckhorn, and Finsteraarhorn, among other permanently ice-covered mountains, provide a stunning view of the surrounding Alps from its beach.

Augstmatthorn
The Augstmatthorn is a high mountain in the Emmental Alps, a subgroup of the Bernese Pre-Alps, rising to a height of 2136 meters above sea level. It is located in the middle of the roughly 25 km long Brienzergrat, which runs from the Harder Kulm in Interlaken to the Brünig Pass via the Augstmatthorn and Brienzer Rothorn.

Giessbach Falls
The 14-tiered Giessbach Falls plunge 400 meters into the abyss in roaring white waterfalls, directly past the Grand Hotel. Along the waterfall are several pathways. It is also seen from above from the Giessbach funicular station. Newly installed illuminations dramatically enhance this natural spectacle at night. While the stream is swollen to breathtaking dimensions in the spring by the melting snow and the rain, the falls are covered in a riot of magnificent colors in the fall.

Iseltwald village
We were taken aback by this village’s diminutive size upon arrival, although it does boast some stunning scenery. We naturally daydreamed about what it would be like to own a property here after falling in love with these locations right away. Though it may seem absurd, whoever arrives considers it right away. It’s good to meet individuals who share your ambitions, since we heard many other travelers thinking the same things we do. The village is referred to as Iseltwald by those who speak German.

Spiez
Spiez Castle
The Strättliger Chronicle’s compiler, Elogius Kiburger, states that Rudolph II, King of Burgundy, constructed the fortress in 933. The Freiherr von Strättligen moved into the castle shortly after that. The town of Spiez was established outside the castle walls by the 13th century, while parts of the present castle’s main tower and curtain walls date back to the 12th century. Under Vogt Richard de Corbières, the castle was mentioned as an Imperial fief by 1280. The castle was jointly owned by the Freiherr von Strättligen and several other noble families in 1289.

Lake Thun
Situated on the northern edge of the Alps, in the Bernese Oberland, lies a fjord lake known as Lake Thun. Lake Length: 17.5 km; Maximum Width: 3.5 km. With a surface area of 47.85 km², it is the largest lake in Switzerland contained inside a single canton. 217 meters is the highest depth.

Oberhofen Castle
The Oberhofen Castle is a castle located in the Swiss canton of Bern, in the Oberhofen municipality on Lake Thun. Mid-May to mid-October is the open season for Schloss Oberhofen. It opens Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; in July and August, it closes at 6 p.m. Adults must pay CHF10 to enter the castle museum, while minors aged 6 to 16 must pay CHF2. Swiss Museum Passes are still good.

Niesen
The Niesen is a mountain in the Bernese Oberland, south of Lake Thun, rising 2362 meters above sea level. Sometimes people refer to it as Thun’s local mountain or the Wimmiser. The Niesen is visually striking due to its unique pyramidal or conical shape. The name “Yesen” was given to this mountain in the past because of the yellow gentian that still grows on it.

Schadau Castle
In the Swiss canton of Bern, the town of Thun, is home to Schadau Castle, a castle situated south of the Aare’s outflow into Lake Thun. It was constructed for the banker between 1846 and 1854 using plans by Pierre-Charles Dusillon in a historicist mixed Tudor Gothic and Neo-Renaissance style, modeled after the Loire castles Abraham Denis Alfred de Rougemont built on the site of an old country estate. Schadau Park is an English garden where the Wocher panorama is also set up.

Sarnen
Lake Sarnen
The Swiss canton of Obwalden contains the lake known as Lake Sarnen. The lake is situated on the Sarner Aa, which empties into Lake Lucerne after passing through Lake Sarnen and Lake Lungern. The Brünig railway line runs along the eastern bank of the lake, and the towns of Sarnen and Sachseln are situated on its shores.

Saving Tips
With the Swiss Travel Pass, you can travel freely by public transportation (train, bus, and boat) to see over 41 cities, climb the top of numerous mountains, and cruise around stunning lakes throughout Switzerland. If you choose not to rent a car or do not bring a car with you to Switzerland, this is, in our opinion, the greatest method to save costs on transportation. Simply look up the costs of train and bus tickets to see that purchasing them separately for each new location would be more costly than using the Swiss Travel Pass.
Investing in a Swiss museum pass is a fantastic method to cut costs in Switzerland if you enjoy visiting museums and castles.You can get free admission to more than 500 museums with this card. In addition to the pass being incredibly helpful, these communities include a number of stunning castles and museums. Mid-May through mid-October is when Schloss Oberhofen is open. In July and August, it closes at 6 p.m., but is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Adult admission to the castle museum costs CHF10, while minors aged 6 to 16 must pay CHF2. A day ticket for Lakes Thun and Brienz sailing costs CHF68 (first class) and CHF99 (second class), which is less expensive than the normal return rates on the Thun-Interlaken West track.The day passes are less on Mondays.
Almost all Swiss transport passes and discount cards are accepted for boat trips on the Lakes Thun and Brienz. Families should make use of the Junior Card, which quickly pays for itself in this area thanks to the abundance of cable cars and mountain railroads. Without a Junior Card, children (6 to 16) only pay half the fare.
On the other hand, on most Saturdays, all kids aged 6 to 16 can cruise for free on Lake Thun and Lake Brienz.
Children under six and anyone celebrating a birthday can cruise for free (in first class!); formal paperwork is required.
For travelers spending a week or two in the area, the Berner Oberland Regional Pass can also be a great value, particularly when used on pricey cable cars and mountain railways. There are other discounted passes available as well, particularly in the spring.

Wander and purchase in Spiez. There are lots of charming stores and establishments in Spiez that have amazing and original deals. There are regional culinary specialties out there just waiting to be explored and experienced. Getting Around
It is advisable to use the train or bus, as is common in Switzerland.While driving is by far the most convenient way to get around, buses may still get you where you need to go depending on what you need. You can also opt for the more expensive option of taking a taxi, boat, or ferry to reach to nearby settlements.

Getting here
If you are flying, the airports at Basel-Mulhouse, Bern, Zürich, and Geneva, Switzerland, are the next in line. After landing, you can take public transit or a rented car to these communities. Additionally, there is a train connection from Frankfurt airport. There are also good rail links from the airports in Paris and Milan.
Directions to Iseltwald Specialized national and international transportation connections exist in Interlaken. There are train connections from and to Basel, Bern, Zürich, and Geneva every 30 minutes. Additionally, it has excellent public transportation connections to the airports of Switzerland and several European cities, such as Paris, Berlin, Vienna, and Milan. Situated just ten minutes’ drive from Interlaken, Iseltwald is a popular tourist destination on the Lake Brienz cruise.

Getting there by bus: The best route if you’re coming from Interlaken is to take the Line 103 bus. Interlaken Ost, the city’s principal train station, is where you must board the Line 103 bus. The trip takes only sixteen minutes, and the connection is available on an hourly basis. The bus leaves you off at the Iseltwald station, which is only a short stroll from the heart of the hamlet. Tickets run about six Swiss francs.
Traveling by car: If you intend to drive alone, the distance from Zurich to Iseltwald is about 110 kilometers, or nearly 1.5 hours. It is, however, only 11 km away if you are in Interlaken, and it shouldn’t take longer than 10 minutes. Getting there by ferry: Taking the ferry is a third way to get to the village. The Interlaken Ferry Station, which is next to the Interlaken Ost train station, is where you can catch the ferry. The ferry voyage is a pleasant experience, and it costs about 15 CHF. It takes about 44 minutes to reach Iseltwald.
How to Go to Spiez As is customary in Switzerland, taking a bus, train, or automobile is advised. There is a train from Berne, Zurich, Basel, and Geneva to Spiez every thirty minutes. Berlin, Germany, and Milano, Italy, both have direct links.
How to Go to Sarnen The city center is the hourly stop for the Luzern-Meiringen Express. Sarnen is 20 minutes away, and a ticket costs about 11 CHF.
