Temperature: Greenland has an Arctic climate with average temperatures that do not exceed 10° C (50° F).In the southern part of the country and the innermost parts of the long fjords, the temperature can, however, rise to more than 20° C (68° F) in June, July or August.

Ammassalik Fjord

Qingertivaq Fjord and Tasiilaq Fjord (one of two fjords with that name) are two thin tributary fjords that come together to form the fjord’s head. In its northern portion, the fjord is oriented north to south; halfway through, it turns to the south-west-south approximately.Although the southern, increasingly wider half of the fjord divides the large Ammassalik Island in the west from the islands of the Ammassalik Archipelago in the east and southeast, including the largest island, Apusiaajik Island, the northern shores of the fjord divide peninsulas of the Greenland mainland.

Greenland National
Museum and Archives

Exhibits at the Greenland National Museum in Nuuk span 4,500 years of Greenland’s history. The Norse colonies, the entrance of the Thule culture, the forebears of the modern Inuit, and the slow shift to modern Greenland are all examples of past Arctic Stone Age civilizations. ongoing collections There is a distinctive ethnographic collection at the National Museum. Church of the Redeemer

The most well-known church structure in the capital city of Nuuk, Greenland, is the Church of the Redeemer. Situated in Nuuk’s oldest area, the colonial harbor, the structure is a landmark. From the Church of Norway, two brass candlesticks are being given away. There is a marble relief and a painting by Carl Rasmussen within the church. A statue of Hans Egede is located just above the chapel. In front of it is a monument dedicated to Jonathan Petersen.

Northeast Greenland
National Park

The world’s biggest national park is Northeast Greenland National Park. At 972,000 km², it is the only national park in Greenland and occupies over 45% of the island.It was designated as a worldwide biosphere reserve in January of 1977. A permit accompanied by SAR mountain insurance and the necessary expedition gear are needed in order to enter the national park.

Kangertittivaq

On Greenland’s east coast lies the Kangertittivaq fjord system, which is located in the Greenland Sea. Its 110 km long main basin, which divides into many fjords, gives it a tree-like form and a total size of 38,000 km². There are lots of islands in the area. The biggest of them, Milne Land, is situated in the center of the inlet and spans an area of 3,913 km². Ittoqqortoormiit, the sole regularly inhabited settlement in the area with 472 residents, is located on the north side of the exit.

Jakobshavn Isbræ

Situated close to the Greenlandic Ilulissat lies the outlet glacier known as the Jakobshavn Isbrae. The glacier makes up a large portion of the ice mass in Greenland. There are roughly 6.5% of the inland ice in its catchment area. Its ice empties into Greenland’s west coast’s Ilulissat Icefjord. The glacier calves more frequently than any other in the northern hemisphere because of the 35 billion tons of icebergs that break off from its glacier tongue every year. A single iceberg can have a length of several kilometers and a height of up to one kilometer.

Uunartoq

Southern Greenland’s Uunartoq is an island renowned for its thermal springs. It is currently unoccupied and covered in polar tundra flora. The three hot springs are situated roughly 50 meters above sea level on the island’s northwest shore. Their body temperature ranges from 31 to 37 °C.

Gunnbjørns Fjeld

With an elevation of 3694 meters, Gunnbjørns Fjeld is the highest mountain in Greenland and the highest mountain north of the Arctic Circle. It is situated on the island’s east shore in the Watkins Mountains. The mountain has the name of Gunnbjørn, a Viking who is said to have discovered Greenland in the year 875.
