Things to do
Castle of Prague
With a floor area of around seven hectares, Prague Castle is the second largest closed castle complex in the world and is located on the Hradcany in the Czech capital of Prague. The castle complex was founded in the 9th century and has changed its appearance significantly since then: Generations of master builders of different architectural styles were involved, and the individual stages of history left their mark. It was the residence of the Kings of Bohemia, two Holy Roman Emperors and the Presidents of Czechoslovakia. Today it is the seat of the President of the Czech Republic. Vitus Cathedral is located in the middle of Prague Castle.
Charles Bridge is a 14th-century historically significant bridge across the Vltava River in Prague, connecting Prague’s Old Town on the right bank with Lesser Town on the left. It is the oldest surviving bridge over the north-flowing Vltava River and one of the oldest stone bridges in Europe. The bridge was given its current name after Emperor Charles IV in 1870. It is considered a symbol of the city and is one of the national cultural monuments. The coronation route of Czech kings led across the bridge.
Old Town Square
The Old Town Square is a square in the center of Prague’s Old Town. The oldest and most important square in Prague is surrounded by historical buildings of different architectural styles, such as the Old Town Hall with the world-famous astronomical clock, the Gothic Tyn Church, the Baroque Church of St. Nicholas and the Rococo Golz-Kinsky Palace. In the center stands a monumental monument to the Czech reformer Jan Hus. The Royal Route, the historical coronation route of the Bohemian kings, leads across the Old Town Square.
Prague Astronomical Clock
The Prague Astronomical Clock, also known as the Astronomical Clock or Old Town Astronomical Clock, Czech PražskĆ½ orloj or StaromÄstskĆ½ orloj, is a world-famous astronomical clock from the year 1410, which is located in Prague on the southern wall of the Old Town Hall. It is a masterpiece of Gothic science and technology and a valuable cultural monument.
Vitus Cathedral
Vitus Cathedral at Prague Castle is the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Prague and the largest church building in the Czech Republic. It was built under Crown Prince Charles, later Charles IV, from 1344, first by the French architect Matthias von Arras and then primarily by the German master builder Peter Parler, based on the model of the French royal cathedrals. The Czech kings marched in a solemn procession along the Royal Route from Prague’s Old Town to the cathedral, which served as the coronation church. In addition to the tombs of the Czech rulers, the cathedral also contains the coronation insignia, which are kept in the crown chamber. The Cathedral is part of the World Heritage Historical Center of Prague.
VyŔehrad
VyÅ”ehrad is one of the most famous early medieval castle ramparts in Bohemia. It is located south of Prague’s New Town on a hill that rises steeply above the right bank of the Vltava River at the mouth of the BotiÄ. Founded in the 10th century as the second Prague castle of the PÅemyslids, it was expanded several times in the Romanesque and Gothic periods. However, today’s appearance is essentially determined by the conversion to a baroque fortress. Inside the castle are the Basilica of St. Peter and Paul and the VyÅ”ehrad Cemetery, where numerous artists, scientists and politicians are buried.
National Museum in Prague
The National Museum in Prague is the leading museum in the Czech Republic for cultural and natural history. Prague Powder Tower
The Prague Powder Tower is a 65 meter high gate tower on Republic Square in Prague. It was built as part of the fortifications of the former royal court in the 15th century. It represents a decorative work of late Gothic in Bohemia and has a monumental, historically significant entrance gate to the Old Town of Prague. The tower got its name when gunpowder was stored inside until the end of the 17th century. At the tower begins the Zeltnergasse, which forms the first part of the historic Royal Route from the former royal court to Prague Castle.

The State Opera
The State Opera, which due to its refurbishment and reopening to the public on 5 January has been paid great attention to by the majority of the Czech media outlets, has an intriguing history. In the late 1880s, the German community in Prague built a new theatre in response to the recent construction of the Czech National Theatre, as well as owing to the necessity for a larger venue, as the then German Estates Theatre, at the time a century old, did no longer meet the ever-increasing staging requirements.
